Committees and Liaisons

AOASM accomplishes its work through the efforts of volunteers who serve on committees. Below is a list of our standing (or permanent) committees and ad-hoc (or temporary) committees and their members. AOASM also has established relationships and collaborations with other associations and organizations. Listed below are those relationships and the volunteers who liaise with those groups. Annual Clinical Conference Committee

The Clinical Conference Program Committee works with the Chair, (First Vice President) and meeting planner to establish the program for the annual clinical conference. This includes finalizing educational content and pre-conference workshops, soliciting speakers and moderators, planning events like workouts, social events, fun run, etc. Committee will assist with the marketing of the program through content created for the website and member communications.

Bylaws Committee

The By-Laws Committee is responsible for the regular review of the By-Laws to ensure that they remain consistent with the goals and objectives of the Academy and comply with existing law.

FAOASM Award Committee

The Fellow Award Committee shall be responsible for reviewing applicants for the Award of Fellow and recommending approval to the Board of Directors.  The Fellow Award Committee shall also be responsible for maintaining communication with current Fellows ensuring that the current Fellows fulfill their obligations as a Fellow of AOASM. Criteria for and maintenance of the award of fellow will be reviewed and updated by the committee with final approval by the board of directors and executive committee as deemed necessary.  The Chair shall be appointed by the current President for a 3-year term.

The Award of Fellow of the AOASM is bestowed to an individual who meets the criteria set forth by the fellowship awards committee under the directions of the board of directors. Members awarded the distinction of fellow are authorized to use the designation, “FAOASM” for as long as they remain active members of the AOASM.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee will work with the AOASM Treasurer in planning, monitoring, and evaluating the organization’s funding, financial management, facilities, assets, risks, and insurance programs. The committee shall work with the Executive Director and the Treasurer in developing long-range financial plans; reviewing annual budgets and financial reports; and recommending internal controls and other financial policies to the board. The committee shall perform such other duties as may from time to time be required by the board.

Membership Committee
The Membership Committee is responsible for the recruitment, retention, and engagement of AOASM members across all career stages, from student through active practice. The Committee monitors membership trends and conversion between membership tiers and periodically surveys the membership to assess satisfaction with the Academy and its activities. In support of this mission, the Committee may act as a liaison to other medical organizations and assist AOASM in increasing its visibility among current and prospective members.

Nominations Committee

It shall be the duty of the Nominating Committee to nominate candidates for the positions of Officer and Member of the Board of Directors and present the same to the Board of Directors at the Annual Membership Meeting. The Academy may conduct elections by mail.  Any member entitled to vote may vote for Directors by mail.  Nothing herein shall be construed to prevent members from making appropriate nominations to fill vacancies from the floor at any conclave called for the purpose of electing Directors.

OMED 2026

The OMED Program Committee works with the Chair, (Second Vice President) and meeting planner to establish the program for the annual AOA OMED conference. This includes finalizing educational content and soliciting speakers and moderators. Program content can be collaborative with other Osteopathic Specialty Colleges. Program Chair is required to attend OMED. Committee members are encouraged to attend OMED. Chair and committee members will work with the American Osteopathic Association to meet the AOA’s deadlines for submission of all materials. Committee will assist with the marketing of the program through content created for the website and member communications.

Past Presidents' Advisory Committee

The Past Presidents’ Advisory Committee shall be responsible for advising the Board on actions before the Board, through an ex-officio (non-voting) member.  This non-voting member shall be elected by the Past Presidents’ Advisory Council. They must be five-years removed from holding a position on the Executive Committee, and shall serve a term of three years.  The Past Presidents’ Advisory Committee will also be represented on the Board of Directors by the Immediate Past President who shall serve as liaison between the Board and the Committee. The Committee is made up of all Past Presidents who maintain membership in AOASM.

Publications and Research Committee

The Publications/Research Committee shall serve as a resource and liaison from the Society to the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine. The Publications/Research Committee also works with other committees (Medical Education, Program, Public Relations, etc.) to develop educational publications for professionals and the public. The Publications/Research Committee shall stimulate interest in research among the Academy’s members by offering training in research methods to Fellows/Residents and Academy members and to secure funding in support of Research by Academy members.

Sidelines Newsletter Committee

The Sidelines/Newsletter Committee is responsible for coordinating the monthly content for the staff member who will layout and distribute the newsletter. Monthly information includes President’s Letter, CJSM article link, member profile, student committee reports, and other information throughout the year.

Sportsosteopathy Committee

The Sportsosteopathy Committee is responsible for coordinating the lectures in Germany hosted by the DAAO.  Responsibilities include maintaining appropriate curriculum and updating lectures with the DAAO representatives, selecting appropriate lecturers for presentation, and maintaining a repository of past lecture materials.

Student Relations Committee

The Student Relations Committee shall be responsible for maintaining close communication with the student sports medicine clubs on the several osteopathic medical school campuses.  The Committee will devise ways and means to increase the participation of osteopathic medical students in the activities of the Academy and devise plans to increase the number of students who join the Academy when they complete medical school and become practicing physicians.

NCAA Mental Health Advisory Group
Mark Rogers, DO, FAOASM

Dr. Mark Rogers serves as a representative on the NCAA Mental Health Advisory Advisory Group, a national advisory body that provides expert recommendations to the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports (CSMAS) and the NCAA Sport Science Institute. In this role, he collaborates with multidisciplinary experts from across higher education, sports medicine, behavioral health, psychology, and public health to advance evidence-based approaches to student-athlete well-being.

The group’s works to develop evidence-based standards, updates Mental Health Best Practices, and creates student-athlete wellness resources.

Through this appointment, Dr. Rogers helps inform NCAA initiatives designed to promote mental health among NCAA student-athletes, coaches, and staff, including healthy decision-making, reducing stigma, supporting early intervention, and strengthen institutional approaches to athlete mental health wellness across athletics. NCAA Prevention and Harm Reduction Advisory Group
Warren Bodine, DO, FAOASM

Dr. Warren A. Bodine serves as a representative on the NCAA Prevention and Harm Reduction Advisory Group (PHRAG), a national advisory body that provides expert guidance to the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports (CSMAS) and the NCAA Sport Science Institute. In this role, he collaborates with multidisciplinary experts from across higher education, sports medicine, behavioral health, psychology, and public health to advance evidence-based approaches to student-athlete well-being.

The group’s work focuses on prevention and harm reduction strategies related to substance misuse, substance use disorders, problem gambling, and other behavioral health challenges impacting collegiate athletes. Dr. Bodine contributes his expertise in sports medicine, family medicine, athlete health and safety, and collegiate athletics healthcare administration to discussions surrounding policy development, risk reduction, education, health promotion, and the creation of supportive environments that enhance student-athlete health and performance.

Through this appointment, Dr. Bodine helps inform NCAA initiatives designed to promote healthy decision-making, reduce stigma, support early intervention, and strengthen institutional approaches to athlete wellness across collegiate sports.
